CHARACTER INFO
Name: Link
Series: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Canon Point: End Game
Reference: here!
Age: 17 and a half.
Gender: Male
Suitability: N/A
Appearance: Link stands at an average height, though appears to be a tad shorter than most males his age at about 5'6", give or take. He has golden brown/copper hair, blue eyes, and fair skin. His ears are pointed and his body shape is average, yet firm and lean given his long journey and many years of training. He'll appear in The Country with his green knight-garb, sans his sword and shield considering he will have been brought directly from the end of the game.
Background: here!
Personality: In the beginning of the game, Link appears to be rather sleepy and laid-back, yet far from lazy as his helping around town suggests. Though he doesn't have dialogue in-game, character reactions to him suggest that he is very kind and understanding. His motivation, however, is kind of lacking as far as his beginning appearance goes. Zelda, Link's childhood friend in Skyloft, usually has to go about waking him up when he sleeps in before school. In this case, he nearly sleeps in through the very important Wing Ceremony. Not to mention, he's well-known for always having his head in the clouds.
The game starts in the quiet town of Skyloft, a chunk of land that was thrust from the Surface below into the skies by the goddess Hylia. Link was raised and educated in the Knight Academy, where he was trained to fight and fly aboard his loftwing companion. Though Link's motivation was just as high as his head was in the clouds, he always set others before himself, and continues to do so throughout his adventures. He's known by his fellow townspeople and classmates as the dopey, quiet and sleepy boy with the special, red-feathered loftwing. Not only that, but he is also known as the kind and talented climber! Link holds a softness that goes alongside his quiet nature, which is why Groose and his gang gets away with bullying him. It's a good thing his best friend Zelda watches over him so carefully, because he wouldn't really get anywhere without her coming to his defense.
Though Link is at the butt of everyone's jokes, he takes them all by surprise when he wins the race in the Wing Ceremony and shares a special moment with Zelda, who takes on the role of the goddess and rewards Link with a sail and a blessing. A rather tender moment is shared, but becomes bittersweet when Zelda is knocked off of her loftwing at the end of the ritual and thrown far away by a dark twister. The wind takes Zelda away, and it is later discovered that the evil Ghirahim is the cause, working to kidnap Zelda and sacrifice her in order to bring back the evil that is Demise. Though this is all lost to Link at first, it doesn't matter. The previous night led him to Fi, who provided the sword which would be the key of his journey. He dons his green tunic, shield and sword, leaving words of explanation to Zelda's father before willingly jumping through the clouds to the surface that he assumed Zelda would preside.
Link's laziness disappears for the time being, Zelda's motivation still being strong as he hopes to find her safe. Without the bat of an eye, he goes through dangerous forests and fights against strong monsters in order to just get a hint as to where she is. His patience is astounding when he comes across difficult puzzles in large temples, going through great lengths when he gets clues to Zelda's location. His journey takes him to Eldin, a fiery volcanic slab of land with a dangerously hot temple. Link dances with flames and rolls over lava to find her, only to catch up with the mysterious Impa. Unknown to Link until then, Zelda is apparently a part of this journey, having to go from temple to temple for cleansing for reasons that are not clear to him. Still, Impa scolds Link, telling him he has no right to be near Zelda and is not good enough to defend her. Link's soft nature slowed him down, apparently holding back the speed he should have accomplished to find his friend and take her home. Her words burn Link, and his determination's flame hikes up higher by not just her insults alone, but the fact that he had to watch Zelda frown and leave him behind. With a heavy heart filled with disappointment, Link moves on. This is where I will be taking him from, giving Link a greater sense of determination and worry for his childhood friend.
Regardless of being the chosen hero, Link's determination when it comes to helping people has always been very strong. He finds enjoyment in being thanked and the feeling that comes with helping others, and this only transcends when it comes to Zelda. His close friends hold a very special place in his heart, and he would go to the ends of the earth and back for them. Bravery is a good word to describe him, considering that large temples and vast, unknown lands do not shake this boy. Link may be a simple kid who carves wood for fun and enjoys a good, long nap, but he is hero material with a heart of gold.
Character Powers/Abilities/Skills:
Sword Combat: Link has been trained in the art of sword fighting via his schooling in Skyloft. He is able to hold his own with a sword and shield (as well as with a sling shot).
Bravery: Link has absolutely no limitations, meaning that fear is not a deciding factor for anything. Link will do whatever it takes to find Zelda, even if it means facing gigantic, dangerous creatures on the Surface below.
Flight: Not on his own of course. Link has the companionship of a loftwing, which is a large bird that can soar the skies of Skyloft. He pilots a large, rare red colored loftwing with ease, eveyn winning himself first place in the race to graduate and become a knight.
Wisdom (Strength: Link is very intelligent when it comes to strategy and solving problems. Given that every challenge involves some sort of dungeon or temple with the likes of a labrynth or rubix cube, he's got to use his head more often than his brawn.
SAMPLES
First Person Sample: [ A little fussing, and suddenly a very concentrated, half-frustrated looking individual comes to view in the mirror. He looks rather perplexed, if not uncomfortable when the image comes clear. ]
A-hah! Can anyone hear me?
[ He turns the mirror this way and that, tilting it upside-down and right-side up once again. Link leans in closer, making so only a singular blue-eye can be seen until he backs up. ]
Hello? Hello?
If anyone can hear me at all, my name is Link. I'm pretty confused as to why there was this sudden change of location-- Not that I'm one to avoid providing help, but still! Where I was is still important.
[ He grimaces. ]
I wish no ill-will to those providing hospitality, but... Sexual relations for the good of the land? Tell me they aren't serious.
... Zelda? Groose? Hello! Are either of you here???
...
Ah, hello? Nn... This would be really embarrassing if I were talking to myself.
[ Link sighs heavily through his nostrils as he runs his fingers through his hair and pulls off his cap, itching his scalp before fussing with the mirror once again. ]
Um...
Okay. I shall start a search. Again. It never ends...
Goodbye?
[ A few seconds pass, as well as a few grunts and huff before the visual shuts off. ]
Third Person Sample: All he could do is sit there and stare at the wall...
Link still couldn't quite fathom what just occurred. His eyes are wide, trying to gather what had happened before being randomly set in this unfamiliar room. Everything happened so fast, it's still foggy and dream-like. Was that dark... Creature someone important? Hadn't he just defeated Demise and set the world anew with safety? What was that, and how did he get thrown into a desert so suddenly?
Although, the running from the unknown entity only to be swept away by another-- That is what took him so far off guard. But even then, he could hardly get past his eyes being wide and his mouth partly agape as the stranger spoke to him so quickly after rescuing him. He was being asked for help again, a request to save this unknown land and...
Wait.
Have... Sexual relations with people? Of course, that was the next part that rendered Link completely devoid of vocal capabilities as soon as the stranger seemed to teleport him to this room. Link turned to stare at the mirror, still completely taken aback by what just occurred. He can't bring himself to be scared or worried about his home. They were free, and though he already began to miss the newfound permanence of Zelda's company, Skyloft and the rest of the Surface was safe. They were to make the land their new home, their new place to explore together... But at least it was in a safe place, he supposed that he could wait.
Still... Zelda.
"Why?" As if anyone would answer at this point; Link should have thought to ask that when that stranger was still in his company.
Link releases a heavy sigh, finding himself grunting in a slight bit of frustration as he grabs the mirror out of pure curiosity. It flickers something strange, bearing what looks like a ton of messages and images that go much beyond any normal looking glass.
"Oh--!"
Link's eyebrows raise to the discussions he seems in there. Is this some sort of communication device? Perfect! Perhaps now he can get some answers in his newfound state of being able to properly pay attention, rather than be awed and confused. Curse his head in the clouds... He could go even greater lengths, harder quests and temples, and still find it hard not to daze off at the oddest times.
They furrow quickly as he begins to fuss with the device. The faster he gets answers, the faster he'll be able to perhaps help and find Zelda again.
