Character Name: Link
Series: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Point in canon: Link's first reuniting with Zelda, in which Impa prevented the two from speaking.
Character Background and Personality: In the beginning of the game, Link appears to be rather sleepy and laid-back, yet far from lazy as his helping around town suggests. Though he doesn't have dialogue in-game, character reactions to him suggest that he is very kind and understanding. His motivation, however, is kind of lacking as far as his beginning appearance goes. Zelda, Link's childhood friend in Skyloft, usually has to go about waking him up when he sleeps in before school. In this case, he nearly sleeps in through the very important Wing Ceremony.

The game starts in the quiet town of Skyloft, a chunk of land that was thrust from the Surface below into the skies by the goddess Hylia. Link was raised and educated in the Knight Academy, where he was trained to fight and fly aboard his loftwing companion. Though Link's motivation was just as high as his head was in the clouds, he always set others before himself, and continues to do so throughout his adventures. He's known by his fellow townspeople and classmates as the dopey, quiet and sleepy boy with the special, red-feathered loftwing. Not only that, but he is also known as the kind and talented climber! Link holds a softness that goes alongside his quiet nature, which is why Groose and his gang gets away with bullying him. It's a good thing his best friend Zelda watches over him so carefully, because he wouldn't really get anywhere without her coming to his defense.

Though Link is at the butt of everyone's jokes, he takes them all by surprise when he wins the race in the Wing Ceremony and shares a special moment with Zelda, who takes on the role of the goddess and rewards Link with a sail and a blessing. A rather tender moment is shared, but becomes bittersweet when Zelda is knocked off of her loftwing at the end of the ritual and thrown far away by a dark twister. The wind takes Zelda away, and it is later discovered that the evil Ghirahim is the cause, working to kidnap Zelda and sacrifice her in order to bring back the evil that is Demise. Though this is all lost to Link at first, it doesn't matter. The previous night led him to Fi, who provided the sword which would be the key of his journey. He dons his green tunic, shield and sword, leaving words of explanation to Zelda's father before willingly jumping through the clouds to the surface that he assumed Zelda would preside.

Link's laziness disappears for the time being, Zelda's motivation still being strong as he hopes to find her safe. Without the bat of an eye, he goes through dangerous forests and fights against strong monsters in order to just get a hint as to where she is. His patience is astounding when he comes across difficult puzzles in large temples, going through great lengths when he gets clues to Zelda's location. His journey takes him to Eldin, a fiery volcanic slab of land with a dangerously hot temple. Link dances with flames and rolls over lava to find her, only to catch up with the mysterious Impa. Unknown to Link until then, Zelda is apparently a part of this journey, having to go from temple to temple for cleansing for reasons that are not clear to him. Still, Impa scolds Link, telling him he has no right to be near Zelda and is not good enough to defend her. Link's soft nature slowed him down, apparently holding back the speed he should have accomplished to find his friend and take her home. Her words burn Link, and his determination's flame hikes up higher by not just her insults alone, but the fact that he had to watch Zelda frown and leave him behind. With a heavy heart filled with disappointment, Link moves on. This is where I will be taking him from, giving Link a greater sense of determination and worry for his childhood friend.

Regardless of being the chosen hero (unknown to him for the time being), Link's determination when it comes to helping people has always been very strong. He finds enjoyment in being thanked and the feeling that comes with helping others, and this only transcends when it comes to Zelda. His close friends hold a very special place in his heart, and he would go to the ends of the earth and back for them. Bravery is a good word to describe him, considering that large temples and vast, unknown lands do not shake this boy. Link may be a simple kid who carves wood for fun and enjoys a good, long nap, but he is hero material with a heart of gold.

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual. Link's canon love-interest is Zelda, so regardless of gender, he wouldn't really have much interest in anyone else.

Sample Post: It would be absurd to find it logical, but it felt like what he had just experienced was a dream...

A buzzing in his head startled the hero awake, urging Link's eyes open when it starts to throb and pound. That mysterious woman couldn't have possibly refused to let Link any closer to Zelda, it wouldn't--

Eyes open wide. Zelda! Pupils painfully dilate when the burn of bright lights greet them, and the cold surface he seemed to have taken rest on brings about a shiver. But when all comes into focus, he can't recognize where he is. The room is cold and grey, and the paper gown that replaced the warm green tunic and armor is something he is very certain he hadn't put on before. Link groans, slowly sitting up before looking around to locate where that buzzing noise is coming from, when--

"Welcome to Micro-Metropolis. You will be expected to participate in any number of exciting and stimulating exercises. If you have any questions, please consult the laptop assigned to you. Have a nice day and enjoy your stay."

Link grimaces, suspicion coloring over his confusion as he slips off the table and has a better look around the room. Whatever exercises and activities this place is planning, Micro-Metropolis is nowhere that he is familiar of. Of course, the Surface was unknown ground to him, but this doesn't look much related to Eldin at all. He doesn't speak, doesn't call to the unknown voice that echoes in his mind, but the irritation that paints a picture on his face is enough to warn whomever that called to him that this is not where he is supposed to be.

Anger still burns in his belly, just as the echo of Impa's voice takes him back to the fact that he is still nowhere near Zelda. He can't protect her when he's in this... Strange cell. He has to chase after her! If this is one of Ghirahim's little attempts to knock him off course, then he is sorely mistaken.

The mention of a "laptop", whatever that's supposed to mean, flashed a little lightbulb in his brain. Eagerness takes over the anger as he rushes over a strangely lit device on the counter. It stands upright, a bright screen facing him while square-like buttons decorate a blank slate below. He stares at it, raising an eyebrow as he veers closer. The brightly lit tablet does nothing to explain things when he is so close, blurring the letters of information he needs. Link's mind is revolving around only one thing.

"Zelda? Zelda!" Link taps the screen, pushing it forward and back.

There is no response, maybe this is some sort of puzzle much like the temples he had just gone through. Eyebrows furrow as he backs away from the screen, clearing the fuzz that was the long paragraphs of explanation before him. He grimaces, feeling a little droplet of sweat come down his brow from the mere realization that screaming Zelda's name into a device with written explanation is pretty dumb. Although the explanation isn't entirely clear, given that these are entries that seem to belong to other people, it does give Link one theory.

This is no longer the Surface. The only other life-forms Link had seen had been the single Goron and the kind Kikwis of the forest, not these humans that he is seeing images of on the screen. They all seem to be communicating with each other, which might suggest that he can ask where he is, but...

Zelda...

Where could she be? This isn't familiar ground, and Link hadn't gone back to Skyloft to continue his journey. This doesn't make any sense! He grunts, staring at the keys a bit longer until he decides to bite the bullet and type a message:

I am not sure who this message will reach and when, but I am in need of help. My name is Link, I come from beyond the clouds of Skyloft, and I am looking for someone. This is not where I am supposed to be, I am not a test subject! Zelda, can you see this? Are you here? I'll come for you, I promise!

He starts to feel frantic once he finds the post button, looking around for his sword and shield. When they are nowhere to be found, the anger comes right back. Link is a patient human being, able to find an alternative for anything, but without Fi as guidance, how will he dowse for Zelda? All he finds are his clothes, which he promptly changes into. He glares at the strange device called a laptop, looking into it once last time and examining its features. Link picks it up, tilts it over and stares into the vents-- Nothing. There are no signs of clues, hints, or engraved messages that could send him home. So much for hoping.

When it all ties into him not getting back, he frowns. The laptop rests underneath his arm, shut tight as he stands before the door. Link stares at his feet, and for the first time ever, he feels lost. Without his sword, he is without Fi. There are no doubts he could still fight for Zelda, but... How will he find her now? What if she's not here?

It's a moment in his life where he feels like he could cry, but Link won't allow it. He can't. Zelda is out there somewhere, and he swore to find her and bring her home safe. When those little words of encouragement echo through his mind, his head picks up. He glares daggers into the door as he turns the knob and walks out. Link will find information on his own, and he will find Zelda.
